90th Bomb Group Message Board
Message No. 314Message:
I am a serving police officer in Qld Australia, and wish to pass on the following information. I have just completed 2 years in a remote aboriginal community, named "Doomadgee".
With the help of many local business in Mt Isa, Burketown, Doomadgee and surrounding road houses I have built a memorial wall with the assistance of local labourers and aboriginal youth.
April 2003 the Memorial Wall was commemorated and the plaques were unvealed. The wall is to commemorate the crew of the B24 "Little Eva" and the events surrounding what had occurred. (Crash landed on Dec 42 and the events of the crews survival and tragic loss.)
All members of the crew, and relevant details have been placed on a plaque for all visitors, locals and travellers to view this wall. There are also 3 flagpoles flying the US Flag, Aboriginal Flag and the Australian flag. This area is now a devoted park area within the township and a major focus for all visitors to the township.
I will be taking on another transfer at Lockhart River shortly, (which is Iron Range) I hope to also implement a memorial at Iron Range during my stay, upon local approval, perhaps even an commemoration.
If any members/relatives/authors/historians can assist me with photos, information and old factual events through emails/letters etc that would be mostly apprieciated. All mail can be sent to
Michael MUSUMECI, PO BOX 597 Mareeba Qld Australia 4880. or email me ironrange189"at"hotmail.com
All information will be used inconjunction with a book about the 90th Bomb Group whilst at Iron Range to treasure such memories. Please advise if anyone may help with my enquiry, and I will also endevour to place a pic of memorial at Doomadgee for "Little Eva" on the web soon.
Feel free to contact me about such, as the efforts of the 90th Bomb Group should never be forgotten.
