S/Sgt Ellis Carlson 400th Bomb Squadron

Post by EDC Search » 23 Aug 2025 2132

Greetings from Northern California. I'm a retired Coast Guardsman researching WWII histories of the veterans from my county. One of them was 2LT Henry Hansen of the 321st Bomb Squadron, who I have found well documented in our local newspaper archives. The other is S/Sgt Ellis Carlson, a flight engineer and waist gunner of the 400th Bomb Squadron. In his case, I'm looking for photos or more unit information to summarize in a biography. Ellis passed in 2015 at the age of 103 and is buried in Sacramento, CA. My local newspaper archive has a nice story of Ellis being awarded a Silver Star and Distinquished Flying Cross, and that he flew 41 combat missions. If anyone has any information about either award citation I would be grateful to see a copy or learn more. Many thanks for any and all info......Joe QMCS, USCG (Ret.)

Joe,
I have not been in contact with his son Charles in quite a few years but when I did he was still 'Stuck in Lodi' on S Corinth Ave. The key to contacting him if he is still there is that he changed his last name to Old World Karlsson. We worked for years sharing information on Ellis and he has numerous pictures. Email me directly and I can give you the house number.
