My Uncle, Bill Bishop was an engine mechanic in the 90th. His plane was the "Glow Hop".

Bill passed away 1n 1977, cancer. As a youngster, I heard stories of Japanese soldiers lobbing pot shots at the field from the jungle. "Bullets were spent, but still an irritant." etc.

All my readings of books about the period describe the failed attempts to take Moresby, and the Kakoda trail fiasco. Were there stray Japanese infantry who were cut off from their units and foraging for food at or near the base? Were any Japanese sodiers killed or captured near 90th B.G. base?

Which base was 90th? I looked at Moresby on Google satellite pix; was the 90th's base the big jet airport that is today's air facility there?
