Hi Mick,
I was searching for a "History of Iron Range" and came accross your entry. My reason for seaching relates to the ill-fated Cape York Development Company that based itself in Iron Range during the period from about 1950-1953 and utilised a lot of the buildings and equipment leaf behind by the American Military.
My father and brother were members of the Company and I was about six years old, and can vaguely recollect a lot of wartime relics (aircraft, ammunition, fuel dumps, buildings, etc)
I have a lot of paperwork about the incredibly mis-managed Company which I am arranging into a portfolio for my brother - who is 11 years older than me (Dad passed away years ago). It is a fascinating tale of fraud, deceit, vanity and stupidity of the M.D. of the Company.
I would love to know if anyone has any photographs of the buildings or area when it was in full military use.
Best regatrds,
Dale.
