We discounted that possibility as the Kawanishi MAVIS had 4 bladed props with pointed tips and the wreckage props have the very characteristic rounded blade tips of the Hamilton props fitted to the B-17, also only 3 blades.

    Ben also thought it could have been wreckage of a Japanese bomber that was damaged in an air raid over Townsville. Denis
