During the past several years, with the help of many wonderful folks (esp. Bonnie Dilworth) I had been researching the WWII history of my father, Glenn H. Moreton, (90th; 400th)who was killed in May 1945 in a crash off Mindoro. Although I have set this work aside for about the past 10 months as I have moved on to other endeavors, new things keep emerging from the past. Only yesterday, another "Black Pirate" member somehow located me and made contact.

Another piece of the past emerged recently: my mother's "sweetheart jewelry." When I was visiting her several months ago and we went out to dinner, she wore a little pin that she said she had rediscovered lately. It was a Jolly Rogers pin that my dad had given to her. As we looked at it, my mother was surprised to see that it was sterling silver. It had a black enamel and silver design that showed skull and crossbones. It was captioned (at the bottom I think) with the words of either "Jolly Rogers" or "Black Pirates" (I don't remember which). I never had heard of "sweetheart jewelry" until then, but have since learned that it was a tradition that had began in World War I. I suppose it may continue to this day. In anycase, I was fascinated to see and learn about this romantic relic from World War II. Does anyone else know anything else about Jolly Rogers sweetheart jewelry?
