These photos were taken by an ex Australian digger, Hal Herriott, who turned 83 in 2000. He shot them in 1946/1947 in Port Moresby when he had the contract to salvage the aluminum and collect brass and other valuable metals at that time. Most of these photos were taken at Jackson's Strip or the Seven Mile Drome which was the main airbase in Port Moresby, PNG. It is now known as Jackson's International Airport, Port Moresby. Hal then moved on to Rabaul where he continued recovery and eventually settled into the timber industry on West New Britain. He often found crashed US and Australian aircraft when felling rainforest timber in the jungle. Hal, a veteran of North Africa, Greece and Crete campaigns, returned to Australia in 1942, to retrain and then go into New Guinea to fight Japanese. During WWII, Hal fought Germans, Italians, Vichy French and Japanese.
