Message No. 853Message:
The Iron Range airfield dedicated a number of existing and new plaques on the Memorial Wall in 2007. The following bronzed plaques are now attached to the Memorial Wall.
1. Dedication for the tragic loss of Co-Pilot Graham Brindley John ROBERTSON (RAAF 412717) who was seconded to the 22nd Bombardment Group. The B26 had crashed at Iron Range airstrip after returning from a mission.
2.Dedication for the lost crew of "Punjab" B24 41-11902 that failed to return from a mission after leaving iron Range on 16 Nov 1942. Sadly the crew and plane are still missing today.
3.There are also a number of existing bronze plaques that dedicate all Australian and American units that had been attached to Iron Range during WW2.
This Memorial Wall, has been dedicated a number of times by representatives of the US Embassy in Australia, as well as also an officially dedication from RAAF, as well as also been officially recognised by the local indigenous population of Lockhart River, by traditional dance and music.
Iron Range will never be forgotten and the airfield now fully recognises the importance of such vital history. Also attached ot the Memorial flies the American and Australian flags in unity.
